You and your family should be prepared to be self-sufficient for a period of 72 hours in the event of an emergency. Those whom are not prepared to manage an emergency can see their lives seriously impacted when one does occur; to those that are prepared, it can be just an inconvenience. Emergency preparedness begins with you. Every municipality, regardless of size or location, is vulnerable to emergencies. Emergency preparedness by residents and municipalities helps to minimize the impact that an emergency could have on our community. The Municipal Emergency Management Program works to prepare our community for emergencies and disasters through the development of The Municipality of Trent Hills Emergency Response Plan, hazard identification and support plans, training programs, emergency exercises as well as public education and awareness. The aim of the plan is to protect the safety and welfare of the residents of Trent Hills from the effects of a natural, technological or human caused emergency. Disasters come in many forms. For most people. the possibility of being involved in a disaster may seem remote. The Canadian and Ontario governments clearly state that each individual is responsible for their own safety, and the well-being of their family. Knowing what to do in an emergency can help you better control the situation and be in a position to recover faster. The Municipality of Trent Hills constantly strives to improve its level of preparedness. The Municipality has an Emergency Plan that has been formally adopted by Council. All the emergency planning initiatives are overseen by the Program Committee. The Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the Municipality of Trent Hills is responsible for upgrading the plan and for moving the emergency preparedness initiatives forward. The initiatives include training, public education and awareness, along with mitigation strategies. In the event of an emergency in Trent Hills, the Emergency Control Group will meet to coordinate the emergency. Members of the public are encouraged to listen to the following radio stations for updates and bulletins: Local residents can assist the emergency personnel by ensuring that each family or home has a 72 hour (3-day) emergency kit.
